No fear, we’re back with some insane vinyl on this week’s RECORD OF THE WEEK Blog! Twenty years ago, BUSH bravely followed up their 1994 multi-platinum juggernaut of a debut, ‘Sixteen Stone’, with a darker, more cerebral sophomore effort in ‘Razorblade Suitcase’. Produced by Steve Albini and recorded at London’s Abbey Road Studios, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, selling 293,000 copies during its first week of release in the US and staying alive with hit singles “Greedy Fly” and “Swallowed”. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of this 3x platinum album, the band has announced a deluxe, remastered LP edition titled ‘Razorblade Suitcase (In Addition)’ via ROUND HILL/ZUMA ROCK RECORDS. In addition to the original remastered album, the reissue will also include four rare bonus tracks: “Old”, “Broken TV”, “Bubbles”, and “Sleeper” on a double ‘Black’ and ‘White’ AsideBside vinyl color. The metallic foil jacket features reinterpreted artwork by designer Shaun Durkan, and a fold out poster with never-before-printed lyrics and album liner notes from producer Steve Albini.

I must be one of the unfortunate few who got a bad pressing. Vinyl suffers from surface noise, and pops from bumps in the vinyl.
There are areas of no-fill as well. My truntable is moderately priced, somewhere between audio tecnicas and higher end Proj-Jects or Regas. I have a Ortofon 2M bronze which seems to reveal quite a bit, and as a byproduct does pick up more surface noise. GZ Vinyl pressed this and it's just about standard for what they usually put out, surface noise wise, even testing it on my Technics SL-D2 with an AT 440ML2a cart/stylus. I just scored this for $19 at my local Barnes and Noble I'm glad I wasn't a sucker who bought one of the wretched Kirkland or MOV repressings of this album in recent years; both of those reissues suffered from terrible sound quality issues (mostly due to being sourced from MP3s) and featured incomplete packaging and songs missing from the official tracklist.
