Our issue with food there was mostly with kids who loved eating cheetos after school and then would type on the computers with orange fingers. We also had an issue that was specific to a patron. He was bringing in a grocery bag of lunch meats and hot dogs, etc. He would shove the empty hot dog package and lunch meat bags behind the computers. With that being said food was still allowed.

I now work in NYC and there is a no food policy. The main reason for this is because we don't want it to attract pests. I also want to say it's different based on the library setting. I definitely think it's more appropriate in college library settings. Public library here.

We allow food as we simply cannot police a no-food policy. And honestly, with all the other problems we have to combat, snacks just don't feel important. The computer lab is supposed to be food & drink free, but the enforcement of any policy in that department is non-existant. There have been the few random issues such as finding a salad someone hid behind books, but as for meal delivery (like pizza), it is usually staff calling in lunch. Our good patrons clean up after themselves & create no problems; our regular problem patrons are going to beprobkems no matter what rules we have.
